Gainesville, Georgia Car Accident and Wrongful Death Attorneys

Christopher Simon, Attorney at law has an office right next to the Federal Courthouse, just off of the square so we can provide the hands-on service to the residents of Hall County that we are famous for.

As home to some of the most successful poultry processing plants in the country, Gainesville, Georgia, sees a significant amount of interstate shipping. The city is also well-known for its association with Northeast Georgia Medical Center, which is the largest employer in the area. While these thriving industries play an important role in the local economy, they also result in a significant amount of traffic, which in turn increases the likelihood that a Gainesville resident will be involved in a car crash at some point. Vehicle collisions can take a devastating financial, emotional, and physical toll on victims and their families, so if you or a loved one were injured in an accident that was caused by another person’s negligence, it is important to contact an experienced Gainesville car accident attorney who can protect your interests.

Why are there so many car accident in Hall County?

Gainesville has grown and continues to grow. In 2010, Hall County had a population of around 180,000.00 people. Today, Hall County’s population is over 245,000 people: a growth rate of over 25%. Our little city just isn’t so little anymore, and being that this is Georgia, pretty much everyone drives…everywhere. Driving is just part of life, and unfortunately, the reality of driving as part of our daily routines means that our chances of being involved in a car accident increase. In 2021, Hall County performed a crash profile and undertook the effort to compile some data to see where the most car accidents in Hall County were taking place.

In 2021, there were approximately 9,629 car accidents in Hall County. Of those accidents, 1,923 of them involved injuries with 2,839 people reporting injuries because of those collisions. 25 of these were fatal accidents, with 29 people being killed as a result. That is a lot of accidents and injuries over the course of one year. Unsurprisingly, the most accidents occurred both at intersections where there has historically been the most amount of traffic and at areas close to I-985, where again, traffic is the heaviest. Below is the breakdown of the intersections in Hall County where the most accidents occurred:

Not, surprisingly, Mundy Mill intersection in Oakwood is one of the worst. As you might expect, most of the accidents occurred around central Gainesville, the exits from I-985 for Oakwood (exit 16) and Hwy. 53, and in Buford near Friendship Road (exit 8). Again, it is not hard to believe that most of the accidents occurred in the most heavily traveled areas. The more people there are, the higher the probability of a collision occurring. In the below image, each red dot shows where an accident occurred, and as you can see, the I-985 corridor through Hall County is the most concentrated area of collisions.

This is a list of the 15 most accident prone locations in particular. Sometimes its the roadway design and sometimes its just the high traffic count or speed.

Common Causes

While some car accidents are caused by another driver’s intentional wrongful act, such as choosing to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, other crashes are merely the result of negligent driving.

Some of the most common types of car accidents include those caused by the following negligent actions:

Distracted driving:

  • Improper vehicle maintenance;
  • Negligent manufacturing or vehicle design;
  • Speeding;
  • Failing to adjust driving to poor weather conditions;
  • Unsafe lane changes;
  • Improper turns;
  • Driving while drowsy;
  • Tire blow-outs; and
  • Tailgating.

Injuries:

The severity of property damage and physical injury sustained in a car accident that occurs as a result of another driver’s negligence depends on the specific circumstances of the crash. For instance, crashes involving large vehicles are much more likely to result in serious and sometimes life-threatening injuries, while fender benders may cause no physical injury and only a few scratches to the bumper of the victim’s car.

Some of the most common injuries sustained in car accidents include:

  • Broken bones;
  • Lacerations from broken glass;
  • Burns;
  • Toxic exposure;
  • Spinal cord injuries;
  • Nerve damage;
  • Head injuries;
  • Pregnancy complications;
  • Whiplash;
  • Internal bleeding; and
  • Psychological trauma.

Some of our most notable successes include:

  • $7,000,000 for the death of a man who fell at a grocery store.
  • $5,900,000 for serious injuries to a man injured in a tractor trailer accident.
  • $9,500,000 for a woman killed in a collision with a trash truck.
  • A $1,500,000 award for the wrongful death of an elderly woman who was killed while making a left turn at an intersection that had been negligently designed by the Department of Transportation;
  • A $900,000 settlement with an insurance company, based on a $25,000 policy, when the victim was rendered quadriplegic due to a car accident;
  • A $395,000 settlement for a woman who required a spinal stimulator implant after being injured in a rear-end collision; and
  • A $100,000 award for the victim of a rear-end collision who sustained post-concussive syndrome that lasted for two years after the accident.

Car accidents are not only physically and financially devastating for victims, but can also be emotionally or mentally traumatic as well. Many victims are unable to drive for months or even years after sustaining an injury and may require ongoing therapy to deal with anxiety and panic attacks. It is important that victims obtain the best possible medical and psychological care, and our legal team can help to ensure that you receive the care you need.
